The Rhode Island 39 Club

The Rhode Island 39 Club In-Person

Join author and historian, Marty Podskoch, for a talk about his travel book, The Rhode Island 39 Club that encourages people to visit all 39 towns and villages in the Rhode Island.  The idea for the club began after Podskoch read about Dr. Arthur Peach of Vermont who in 1954 suggested the idea of an informal group, the Vermont 251 Club, to veer off the beaten path “to discover the secret and lovely places that main roads do not reveal.”   Podskoch believed that Rhode Island would benefit from a similar travel club.  He recruited local writers to describe their town and village’s location, history, and important points of interests.   Each of the chapters includes a brief history of the city or town along with a list of local landmarks, restaurants and other places to visit.

Marty Podskoch is a retired teacher and author of eleven books, including the Rhode Island Civilian Conservation Corps Camps.
